I have been looking into buying a bike for about a year now. I had a Trek when I was at Penn State and decided I wanted to get another. Because of my busy schedule I have just not had the time to get out and actually get one, but last Friday after stopping by a neighborhood garage sale (early) with a friend – I saw a purple Trek with an aluminum frame, front suspension, and a price I could not beat. When I first saw it I was ready to easily pay $100 but the price tag said $40. I instantly grabbed it up and took it to the local bike store to get a tune up. The service guy laughed at what I paid and a few days later I picked it up.
I had not ridden a bicycle in years – probably over ten years. When I was younger – I road my bike everywhere. Of course – I jumped on and took off thinking I could do a quick mile or two – no problem. Well not being familiar with the gears/gear shifting I went from what seemed like 21 to 1, then back. I could barely petal, then all the sudden my legs were moving 90mph. After the first half mile – I turned back because it was ridiculous. I also realized I needed a new seat – desperately.
The next day I got out there and it felt much better. I found a comfortable gear and had a nice ride. Although everyone says the phrase “it is as easy as riding a bike” it made me laugh a little to think about the difficulty I had after not riding one in a long time. I look forward to taking rides with my kids this summer!
