I love travel for so many reasons but mostly for all the unknowns that we discover along the way.
On Hawaii, the amount of lava and lava rock was a complete shock to me. I took a few photos of it but you can really see the lava/landscape from the of our plane taking off. I also love the fact we saw an Alaska Airlines plane at the Hawaii airport. Perhaps it would be even more odd to see a Hawaiian Airlines place in Alaska, but all in all it is not something expected.
The photo of the “cave” (old lava tube) was actually in a lava rock field close to where we stayed. The ancient Hawaiians used these old lava tub caves as a place to live. I also did not expect to be able to walk through a lava tube or see petroglyphs.
On Kauai, it also unexpected and such a delight to randomly see bananas growing. I am not sure what it was, but every time I would see a banana tree I would just smile.
