I like to find the hidden treasures when traveling by eating where the locals eat.
A lot of people like to dress up and go to a fancy restaurant when traveling but I am the exact opposite. Give me a local taco shop, food truck, or a hamburger joint you can barely see from the road and I am there. Hair windblown, sunscreen not rubbed in all the way, and in flip flops.
While in Kauai – we visited one of our favorite places called Island Tacos which claims to be the best on all the islands.
On Hawaii – we found a little lunch place that is attempting to have the best burger on the island. Both places were great. We also found a really nice farmer’s market with live music. We also found a lovely little stop on our way to the Volcano National Park in a small quiet town where we ate our food on a porch and listened to the nearby rodeo.
On our way back from a hike to a green beach near the Volcano park, we found the southern most bakery in the US and stopped in for a treat we enjoyed on a nearby black beach.
