Overheard While Getting My Tire Fixed…

Yesterday while I was at a certain repair shop (not the dealership) I overheard a conversation that blew me away. I was waiting to get my tire fixed (flat) and at the parts desk, I heard the following:

Guy 1: “Did you watch the rebate last night?”
Guy 2: “You mean the debate? I watched it and man John…(pausing because he cannot think of his last name)….”
Guy 1: “McCain”
Guy 2: Yes – man, I do not trust him…he lies so much. I think I even trust the other guy Osama more.

At that point – I decided to go into the waiting area instead of looking at floor mats so I could play some Scrabble on my iPhone.

Apple High

I have had an Apple high a few times in my life (the day my PowerBook 520, PowerMac 6500, B&W G3, G4 Cube, 2 Mac Minis, and a MacBook Pro arrived at my door) and I remember each one of them very vividly. Today – I had an unexpected Apple high…I had been having problems with my iPhone (bottom part of the screen was dead) for about a week and finally decided to make an appointment with the Apple Store Genius. I showed up, showed them the problem (with my out of warranty iPhone) – and just like that, I got a new iPhone at no cost. I fully expected to pay for a new one when I showed up and was more than thrilled when I walked away from the store with a brand new iPhone. Great customer service Apple!

A Week or So Later with the iPhone.

I have had my iPhone for over a week now and am still really excited about it. After going on a week long car trip – I have to say I really enjoyed having the camera in the phone to take quick pictures (something I did not have with my BlackBerry 8700c), I organized my overcrowded personal email inbox somewhere in the middle of Ohio while Amy was driving, sent some of my pictures that I took of my son Evan to his grandparents while we were on the road, mapped our route with turn by turn directions, and amazed my grandparents with the amazing UI. I am still very excited about my iPhone!

My iPhone

iPhone I finally did it, I had to…I bought an iPhone and I have loved every minute of owning it. I had an appointment the second day I owned it and the person I met with wanted to “zoom the pictures like the commercials”. I also now have the ability to carry around tons of pictures and movies of my son, as well as some of my favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm so I can watch my favorite show while waiting instead of reading some lame magazine. Sure, the camera is not great, but it beats mine on my old Blackberry (there was none) – and the user interface is absolutely fabulous. Automatically detecting when I flip the iPhone over to change my view with music, pictures, etc is wonderful. It has a great weight and I am quite excited about it! Sure I miss hearing the Price is Right theme song when Amy calls, but I cannot imagine it will be too long before we can easily switch ring tones. Great work Apple!

apple's iphone.

For years I have been talking about and dreaming of an iPhone. Up until this morning I figured Apple would release a simple entry level phone that would be fun for the same people who are likely to buy an iPod Shuffle or an iPod Nano. Little did I know, the new iPhone would be so darn cool! I love my Blackberry 8700, but the iPhone with it’s awesome design and amazing features is exactly what I want. Will I buy it when it comes out? It will be hard not to, but if I can hold out, I will for the revision. Nice work Apple Inc!
