If you need to talk to me or want to send me a message in the next month (or until the new iPhone comes out) – call me on my home phone or email me. I am going without a mobile phone for awhile.

Five years ago – something came out that I had literally been waiting for for years. Now five years later – I am still using the original iPhone. My friends laugh at me, give me all kinds of slack, but at the end of the day – I use it still because it is such an amazing piece of technology that really was a game changer. Touch screen, swiping, scrolling…this was all new and exciting with the release. While I am still forced to run iOS 3.2 and cannot download and play Angry Birds – I am still able to use it for most things (even it if is a little slow) as well as attract all sorts of comments about it’s age.
While, I get a lot of grief for still using this iPhone – it will soon be a part of my great Apple collection and I will always look at it with the amazement I did when I first bought it. Happy Birthday iPhone!
PS – I will get purchasing the next iPhone when it likely comes out this fall.
I admit it – I am hooked on Words With Friends (very similar to Scrabble). One of my friends got me hooked last week and ever since I have been playing with him and some random people online.
What is this? Think Scrabble with a beautiful interface, the ability to play one turn at a time at your own pace – with friends and strangers alike. Some days I will place several words. Other days – I might only have time for one or two words. Games can take a few hours or a few days. Either way – it is a great way to play this word game when you cannot commit to sitting down and focusing for the length of an entire game – all at once. This is very fun and very addicting and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Scrabble.
Download this app for your phone/iPhone/iPad and let’s play! My user name is thejappler.
PS – I am also playing Chess With Friends too – same user name.
All these crazy commercials and talk about the new Droid phone makes me smile. I think back about all the proposed “Apple x killers (x = Mac, Newton, iPod, iPhone) and what makes me smile is there is no third party Apple product killer and I do not see any in the foreseeable future.
The only real threat that these products have/had is actually Apple itself. Either Apple will kill it internally (Newton) or will create something bigger and better that will replace it’s own product.
So even though I enjoyed the Droid commercials – it all sounded a bit familiar (recently with the “iPod killer” Zune) – which come on, who knows someone that has one and has got you so excited you had to have one?
Companies may try and copy, add new functionality that people want…but when it comes down to it, there is just something about those Apple products…
Have a great weekend!
Last week I did some browsing and found something really awesome (for the Chipotle fans out there) – an iPhone app that will find the nearest Chipotle(s) then allow you to place an order using the iPhone app.
The application is call Chipotle Ordering and is a free download. No more waiting in line or carrying a paper filled with Amy’s weird requests. I am super excited with this look forward to quick and easy Chipotle visits.
The graphics are pretty good, and the actual game is spot on to the actual game. I enjoy every aspect of the game, and Evan is a professional wheel spinner. The only downfall to this game is that it drains my battery pretty fast, but it is something worth while when you are looking for a nice break away from work.
If you are a Price is Right fan – check this out for sure. It is worth the $2.99 you will pay for it!
This week I recommend anyone who enjoys listening to Radio 538 (I love the Dance Department) – to download and use the Radio 538 iPhone App. (Julie – this means you). You can get the application for free using iTunes. Even though the controls are not in english – it is easy enough to figure out within a few seconds. With this app – you can listen to a variety of Radio 538 radio shows at any time – using WiFi or not. This app definitely made my first screen of apps on my iPhone.
If you are going to do any serious CSS development and/or troubleshooting – you need to be able to see the site on as many browsers as possible. Generally – we have several browsers on several operating systems going at once so we can make sure our bases are covered.
Last week I built a mobile theme for a client and after a few refreshes on my iPhone – I decided I needed something easier and more developer friendly (I needed to view source). I use the “Develop” menu in Safari (Preference > Show Develop menu in menu bar) – and with that, I was able to choose my user agent (iPhone) – and then view how it would look using Safari which was much faster then using my iPhone – and I could easily view the source. If you need to do any development that depends on the user agent – don’t forget about this little trick!
This past week has been absolutely crazy. Hectic work days, a baby shower at my house, a car accident (with Amy’s $51k loaner) – not her fault, crazy deadlines, etc. I will be happy when I can just sit back and relax this evening (before the weekend chaos).
Through all of this craziness – I have to say I have been enjoying playing some online Scrabble using <a href="http://www.eamobile.com/Web/iphone-game/scrabble" target="_blank" EA's Scrabble for the iPhone with Doug using Facebook to link us together. The game can take an hour or a few days, depending on when we have time, but it is nice to just stop everything now and again and take a turn playing Scrabble. Now all I need is to find a chess game like this and Ken and I will be set!
Hurray for the weekend!
