I have been a big fan of the Uncharted series since my friend Doug gave me his copy of Uncharted 2 to test out back in October. Since then I have finished Uncharted 2 three times (am almost through on Crushing), finished Uncharted 1 once (difficult), and now – just finished Uncharted 3 (normal). I plan to start it all over again tonight on difficult. Overall – Uncharted 3 was awesome. The game play had variety, challenging logic, and a great story. While I still think Uncharted 2 is my favorite – another time through Uncharted 3 might change all that. If you have not played this game yet – give it a shot!

Trick or Treating for All
Yesterday we took the kids trick or treating on our block and the next block. Although I am not a huge fan of Halloween – it was a nice time. The kids had fun and we actually had fun as well.
We got to meet some of the neighbors and walked around with some friends. Some of our neighbors really get into it with crazy decorations, music, dressing up, etc. One house we went to handed out candy to kids, then he had a margarita machine, jelly shots, and beer for adults.
Hopefully next year will be as fun!
Stop Overwhelming Yourself
I don’t know what it is but the last few months I have felt completely overwhelmed. My TiVos are filled with shows piling up that I “need” to watch, I have a pile of mail to go through, posts to write, RSS feeds to read, magazines to read, things to do, etc. Regardless – I could not seem to make a dent in any of it.
This past week I decided enough was enough. I know the one way to take care of something like this is to just keep chipping away at it one piece at a time. I started by first with all my computer related overwhelming tasks. I did a full backup (offsite to Amazon), then re-organized. All media is now on one computer specifically for media and all my Apple devices are set up to properly sync with this computer as well. I then went through and archived email from a year ago to cut the clutter from my mailboxes. I also went through my iPhoto library and trashed any junk photos (blurry, mis-takes, etc). Less photos – easier to go through and truly appreciate. I also went through my RSS subscriptions and deleted a good 40%. I probably spend a good hour+ a day going through RSS feeds and hopefully this will give me more time to actually read only about what I truly care about.
After that, I started in with the mail – and have designated a day of the week specifically to go through everything so that I know (and do not have to worry) that this will not build up anymore. After the mail – I decided to take on the TiVos (which may sound silly – but this was causing a lot of overwhelming feelings of not being able to get caught up). I ended up tossing a lot of things I know I will never watch and also decided to cut down on the number of series I watch. There is only so much one can watch – and I just need to pick this more carefully. I am still at 60% full with TiVo – but I can easily knock that down to 40% by next week.
I also went through my magazines – threw away what I had read or “just about finished” but still had laying around (like my October 2010 Astronomy magazine which highlighted Astronomy events in October of last year).
I know I have a little more to go through, but all in all sometimes you just need to clean out the junk and start fresh or simply plan some time each week to go through certain things so you know you definitely will get to it. We are all busy – but a little goes a long way and even with the things I did this week – I am definitely feeling a little less overwhelmed.
Lesson learned: Get rid of the junk so you can focus on what’s important (applicable to just about everything).
Favorite Fall Snack
It is fall, candy corn is in all the stores…and eating it seems like an ok thing to do on occasion. What is better than plain candy corn? Candy corn and Planters dry roasted peanuts mixed together. Never had it? It is a great sweet/salty combo (best enjoyed with exercise and plenty of water)! Enjoy.
Timing Is Everything
DJ Dan Morrell
Every once and awhile I come across music that I really enjoy. If you like upbeat dance music – check out Chicago’s very ownDJ Dan Morrell. Make sure you check out his podcasts. I have bought more music after listening to them than I have in a long time! Good stuff.
Anything else? Yes – he also plays the guitar. Watch the video…
The Sweater I Wanted in 1990 and Today

I still spend time once a month looking to see if Contra has been released in the virtual console for the Nintendo Wii. I play Super C still regularly but would love to throw Contra into the mix. Not sure what Contra or Super C is? Either you were not gaming in the early 1990s or just truly do not understand the concept of teamwork.
A big thanks to Doug for sharing the photo!
Some Things Never Change
Yesterday I walked in my bedroom and had to laugh when looking at my side of the dresser. I guess I will always be a kid at heart with my Pocket Simon, a lego version of the Sears tower, my cap gun from when I was little, my little people on their playground toys, a ceramic figurine I have had since first grade, and a football. A good deal of that stuff is usually on my dresser – but the football and cap gun put it over the top with coolness
Who wants to come over and play?
New Beastie Boys Album
There are some artists that I feel like I have been listening to forever and Beastie Boys are definitely in this list. I remember trading 3 blank tapes to one of my third grade classmates for Licensed to Ill. (I was so proud). The Beastie Boys have been a part of my life and as soon as I hear an album – I can tell you what was going on in my life when it came out.
I was happy to hear that the latest album is coming out next month so if you are like me and really excited about it – go to the Beastie Boy web site and check out a few tracks.
iTunes Web Interface
I have been enjoying Apple’s web interface to iTunes. Last week I wanted to pass on a link to one of my favorite podcasts and was able to send this link which allows you to listen/preview/subscribe to the podcast all via a web browser. Sharing has never been easier. PS – check out episode 281 EXTRA via that link – it is worth it!
